Description

This J. Clementson & Son Stoneware Covered Oval Soup Tureen is in great condition.
It has the original ladle and underplate.
J. Clementson is the maker.
Hadley refers to the town in England.
These pieces are in great condition for their age.
No chips, cracks or crazing. These pieces are over150 years old.
There is some wear to the pieces, given the age, that’s to be expected.
They belonged to my parents, who collected antiques for 60 years.
I’m downsizing and letting this beautiful 3 piece tureen go.
It weighs over 8 pounds unpacked.
From my smoke free and pet free home.
NOTE:
Joseph Clementson was born about 1794 and travelled to Staffordshire in 1811 to work with his brother in the potteries there.
After serving some years as an apprentice, he became a master potter, entering into partnership with Joseph Reed in 1832.
From 1849, Clementson was the sole proprietor and began expanding his business by enlarging his factory and acquiring adjoining factories.
He built a large and impressive business.
In 1867 he changed the name to Clementson Brothers, putting his 5 sons in charge.
They expanded the business to export trade to all parts of the world.
Joseph died in 1871.
The Clementson Bros. continued and finally ceased trading in 1916.
