Since 2002 Area 51 has been making some of the most musical wahs on the planet. They're found everywhere from the bedroom to the big stages and are in the gear lockers of many great recording studios around the world. Originally a clone of the late 60s Vox wahs, I expanded the design to include my own take on what a vintage style wah can be when taken to the next level. That is the Area 51 Standard Wah available at area51tone. It's got a wider range and a meaner personality. This drop in kit is the EXACT same circuitry as found in those well-loved and sought after wahs. This ebay listing is for the Area 51 voiced version. There's also a Clone-voiced version available for those who want the higher treble range found in the vintage units. We also build these kits to order with a number of custom options such as DC jack with filtering and zener regulation, output buffer for fuzz use, LED indicator, 5 position voicing range control - all info at area51tone under the mod kits section.
It's EASY! If you know what end of a screwdriver to hold onto - you can do this! (the options like DC, Range, LED require drilling..so they're a little more advanced. For this one you only need a few common tools: 12mm wrench, 9/16 wrench, screwdriver, 1/2 inch socket or nut driver. Easy setup too. I first designed this kit almost 20 years ago so that players could easily modify their existing wah to a world class A51 without spending a ton of money - and it's good for the environment when people aren't throwing away big heavy cast zinc steel wah pedals. Speaking of which....most of the dunlop/vox type wah shells out there are really sturdy and will last many decades before needing any sort of refurbishing. But unfortunately the same cannot be said for what goes INSIDE of them. In order to stay profitable in the face of ever decreasing currency value and layers of distribution - they've had to cut some major corners.
They just cannot
put the individual time and effort into each pedal to make sure you're getting and instrument worthy of comparison to the legends (or even surpassing them).
