‘Are you for real!?’: Mum’s horror as daughter steps out in black wedding gown

When it comes to choosing a wedding dress, sometimes the bride and her mother might have very different opinions.
That’s definitely the case for Niquita, a bride-to-be who is on the hunt for a non-traditional gown – more specifically, one that comes in all-black.

Appearing on an episode of Say Yes To The Dress With Tan France – which you can stream for free on 9Now – Niquita hoped to find her “dream gothic dress”.
Niquita was accompanied by mum Simmi, aunty Rena and best friend Priya who all hoped that “gothic bride” was just a phase.
“I want something elegant, simple and traditional, she wants something completely out of the box. That’ll be a challenge,” mum Simmi told cameras.

It wasn’t long before the family realised that Niquita was dead serious about wearing a black gown.
Tan dressed her in a princess-like dress by Hannah Black Bridal priced at £2,300 (AU$4,475).
Niquita felt “incredible” as she chanelled Morticia Addams, but her mum was much less enthusiastic about the bold look.

“Are you for real?” Simmi snapped as she laid eyes on her daughter.
While best friend Priya admitted to “being in shock”. 
No matter how much Niquita loved the bridal look, mum Simmi’s mind was made up.
“You’re not having it!” she declared to her daughter.

Simmi’s biggest concern was that Niquita would offend her mother-in-law and new family by straying from tradition.
“We’ve got to bring people together and I think this would be prioritising Niquita’s feelings over bringing two families together,” she said.

With opinions clearly clashing the room was feeling tense.
